Twin Bridges is a historic mining town that currently services the
needs of county ranchers and farmers. Madison County and the adjacent
Beaverhead County account for over 100,000 (approximately 10% of Montana
total) livestock supplied annually to the beef market. The town has
been designated by Sports A Field magazine as the center of Montana
fishing as a result of its rich array of rivers which include not only
the Big Hole and Beaverhead but also the Jefferson, Ruby and Madison.
It is a popular hunting area for birds, deer, elk and antelope which
reside in the area. A popular tourist attraction includes the ghost
towns of Nevada and Virginia Cities. The town of Twin Bridges has an
active rail line and local airstrip supporting private aircraft. Dillon,
twenty eight miles distant has a larger private airport and the commercial
airport in Butte is fifty miles away. Twin Bridges is twenty eight miles
south of Rte. 90 at Whitehall. Rte. 15 runs through the town of Dillon
making it readily accessible to truck and auto traffic.
